What if I told you everything you have been told about veteran suicide, was a half-truth, or had no truth at all? What if I told you that much of what you see, has become redundant, all the way down to what many would consider an "acceptable" number in the fiscal sense?
What would you say if I told you that as veterans, we are largely dependent to resort to our vices by many people in society, to include health professionals, insurance companies, big pharma, and hell, even our own families and friends? And that it is the dependency on Alcohol that our demographic is largely known for, which is the smoking gun in what everyone sees as "being overmedicated", quite frankly, our suicide numbers are largely due to the combination of alcohol and anti-depressants. And there are parameters in place that ensures this trend only continues way into the future.
This is one veteran's dive into the abyss, one where reflection of the past 24 years with a very sharp, disciplined, healed, and sober mind, reveals sad and horrible truths about the status quo. Truths where accountability and responsibility have gone completely out the window. A reality exists among us, where, after 20 years of watching many come home and end their lives before any chance of healing or growing beyond their time served even happens.
While most out there choose to point fingers at the VA, this particular veteran, whom after receiving a long fought for service connection rating following a massive mental breakdown in 2016, earned a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance, and shortly after was employed as a global fraud analyst for a large multinational financial institution. This part of his life, is important, because it was the education that came from being service connected, receiving care, and learning how to conduct crucial analysis in real time, led to the analysis of something that sickened him to his core, after apathy wore off.
What we are dealing with doesn't require finger pointing, but a real no bullshit assessment of what we all endure, the current status quo that allows it to happen, and the fact that the healthcare system we as veterans depend on, was not built nor was it ever meant to withstand 20 year's worth of war. And this is something nobody takes into consideration, and when you finish this documentary, by the time it is over, you will then realize what it costs to have a 20-year war, and the responsibility that is now set upon us to do shit a hell of a lot differently moving forward.
This is a one man effort to produce a deeply impactful film that will engage the minds of millions.
